Kano-Maradi railway contract signed

Mota-Engil Africa and Nigeria’s Ministry of Transportation have signed a contract for the engineering, procurement and construction as well as financing (EPC-F) of the 378-km Kano-Maradi railway line connecting Nigeria with neighbouring Niger.

In October 2018, Mota-Engil Africa was listed as preferred bidder for the US$ 1.82 billion project.

The next stage will involve the completion of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), expropriations, initial mobilization and preparation of the project, and final approval of the project financing. This will be coordinated by Mota-Engil Africa together with the Government of Nigeria and the financial institutions.

Financing of the project
  • ECA-covered buyer credit and commercial loans
  • Borrower: Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Finance
  • Structuring & Financial Advisors as well as Mandated Lead Arrangers: KfW-IPEX Bank, Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) and Credit Suisse.
