Ongoing Rehabilitation of Nairobi–Nanyuki Metre Gauge Railway Line to be Complete in July

Rehabilitation work on the Nairobi – Nanyuki railway line is on course with Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) expecting its completion in July this year. Two low-sided train wagons, two hopper wagons, one passenger coach and one locomotive have already been offloaded at the Nanyuki rail terminus.

The rehabilitation work on the 240 km rail line is being financed to the tune of US $30 million. Kenya Railways Corporation, which is undertaking the project, injected US $10 million, with the National government funding the remaining amount.

Rehabilitation is being carried out in three sections which include Nanyuki – Marua, Marua – Sagana and Sagana – Thika. Once complete, the railway line is expected to open the agricultural region and ease the transportation of agricultural produce to markets in Nairobi and beyond.
