The first phase which runs over 28 km from Agbado to Oyingbo will share track with the Lagos-Ibadan Railway from Agbado to Ebute – Metta and then run on a dedicated track from Ebute – Metta to Oyingbo.
The project aims to revamp the dilapidated rail line linking Port Harcourt in the southeast with Maiduguri in the northeast.
The next stage will involve the completion of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), expropriations, initial mobilization and preparation of the project, and final approval of the project financing.
The project involves the construction of a 284-km single track standard gauge rail line from Kano to Maradi in Niger through Katsina and Jibia, and a 93-km branch line from Kano to Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State.
