Mitsubishi which is the prime contractor will oversee the project’s schedule and day-to-day operations while Kinki Sharyo will deliver the rolling stock between 2025 and 2028.
Wabtec will supply 100 ES30ACi Evolution Series locomotives and maintain the fleet for 8 years. The locomotives are scheduled for delivery in 2023.
Alstom will manufacture and supply 55 Metropolis trains which will replace the 30-year old metro trains on Cairo Metro Line 1.
The contract between NAT and a consortium comprising Siemens Mobility, Orascom Construction and The Arab Contractors will cover design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of the rail system for 15 years.

Hyundai Rotem will carry out signalling upgrades on the 118-km Nag Hammadi – Luxor railway line as part of the Egypt National Railways Modernization Project (ENRMP).
The diesel locomotives are equipped with 12-cylinder 3200 hp (2.39 MW) GE Evolution Series engines and will be used for both passenger and freight.
The RISE project will modernize the signalling system and renew the track along the Cairo – Beni Suef segment, and will continue ENRMP’s works along the Alexandria – Cairo and Beni Suef – Nagh Hammadi segments. The project will cover a total length of 763 km.
